THE PLEASURE OF A STEAM BATH

The warm hug of a warm cloud soothes and purifies the skin, while the scent of essences softens and frees the respiratory system, relieving and heart-warming. Contemporary wisdom has crossed centuries to restore well-being by the use of water and warmth.

HAMMAM: ORIGIN AND TRADITION

Back in ancient Rome, public baths were an important social and hygienic institution. In Islamic countries, in the 17th century, public bathing gained new cultural and religious influences. Indeed, Muslims introduced the use of humid heat and the importance of ritual hygiene within the religious context.

In Turkey, the steam bath reached its peak of popularity and sophistication, therefore it is also known by the name of Turkish bath or Hammam. Hammams are these beautiful structures with rooms of different temperatures inside, in which the body was cleansed by the practice of savonage, black soap, and where heat and steam were used for purification rituals.

What we are proposing today is therefore one of the practices used at the time. Modern steam baths are steam-saturated environments, with a temperature of 40-50 degrees and 100% humidity.

The heat is less intense than in a sauna, which enables longer sessions of 20-25 minutes. The infusion of balsamic essences in the steam completes the sensory experience of well-being.

HAMMAM RITUAL

Before entering the steam bath, drink a glass of water to make sure you are well hydrated; then continue with a warm shower to wash your body thoroughly and prepare it for purification.

Enter naked or covered with towels made of natural, breathable fabrics. Once inside the hammam, use the hand shower to rinse the bench on which you will sit. Find a comfortable sitting or semi-sitting position and relax for between 15 and 25 minutes. In addition to steam, aromatherapy with essential oils can help stimulate and relax your body and mind. Chromotherapy lights and music complement the awakening of all the other senses.

After your steam bath, take a cold shower to wash off the sweat and lower your body temperature. Snuggle into a bathrobe and lie on a lounger for at least 15 minutes of relaxation, sipping a hot herbal tea to restore water balance.

STEAM BATH BENEFITS

The steam bath, also known as a Turkish bath, is a room for relaxation and purification. The combined action of steam and high temperature purifies the body, facilitating the elimination of toxins.

Thanks to the effect of the steam, the pores unclog, allowing deep cleansing of the skin and contributing to a softer, radiant and firmer glow. The beneficial steam moisturises the mucous membranes of the respiratory tracks, strengthening and relieving any symptoms of congestion.

The calming and relaxing experience of the warm, fragrant environment can help reduce anxiety and improve mood, promoting a feeling of tranquillity.
